The idea. The conviction. The institution.
Ghana has one of the richest choral traditions on the African continent. From the foundational works of Ephraim Amu in the early 20th century through to the modern compositions of James Varrick Armaah and the jazz-choral innovations of Victor Manieson, Ghanaian art music has been producing works of extraordinary beauty and cultural depth for over a hundred years.
And yet the infrastructure to carry that tradition to the world has lagged far behind the music itself. Chorale Africa was built to close that gap.
Founded in 2017, Chorale Africa was built on a simple conviction: the African choral tradition deserves to be performed at the highest standard — not as a cultural curiosity, but as a world-class art form. Every rehearsal, every production, every commissioned work, and every digital platform we build is in service of that conviction.
From our founding concert to our annual flagship season at the National Theatre, every production advances that founding mission — and carries a tradition that deserves to be heard.
